Re: Andrew Duplantis Fan Club

Not to mention the hair!! He was great in SF last night, just wonderful bass lines, and tight with Mark. What a joy to have him laying the foundation for the sound!

Re: Bash& Pop

Love Tommy Stinson! Great song. Wish he'd put Bash & Pop back together and tour.

Peter Bruntnell opening in CA

I'm really psyched to see him at Slims and the Mystic. Been listening to more of his stuff lately. One of those guys who should be (or have been) huge (like Alex Chilton or Matthew Sweet), so much talent and so musical.

Request?

Wait, is this implying that all I have to do is get some attractive girl to write "Please play Left a Slide" on a piece of paper, leave it front of Jay and sulk away? Cool!!!

Jackpot

Missed Record Store Day in Marin, but happened to be in Santa Rosa yesterday and stopped by The Last Record Store. Awesome shop! They had all the remaining RSD 7" on a counter, and to my very pleasant surprise there was one Gob Iron! Also grabbed the Kurt Vile EP and Clapton 3LP Live 2001 (I will "r...

Mark--just listened to the Independent's Day interview you did during the Honky Tonk tour. Speaking of things you recorded--you mention in the inter...

This is not that complicated. Jay Farrar is an artist who (newsflash?) has strongly held beliefs. He often writes and sings about these beliefs. If they offend a listener, he or she does not have to listen--go find quality songwriters/musicians who believe in Wilbur Ross (good luck). Jay would not b...

Keyboards (and pedal steel) fill out the sound

I for one think Mark's keyboards and pedal steel add welcome color and texture to the Son Volt sound. Guitars, bass and drums are the core, but they are all really rhythmic instruments. The Hammond (or the pedal steel) give color and sustain that really bolster the sound. Think The Dead, the Heartbr...

Great setlist and The 99 sounds tremendous. Just curious, why did the band travel from their various homes to Denver for 2 shows, with nothing else on the schedule for months? Kinda odd. Did Jay say anything about that (yeah, I know it's Jay and the answer is likely "no you idiot, have you ever seen...

Just saw Elvis Costello at the Masonic (SF)--tremendous show. 30 songs, the new stuff is great live, Pete Thomas and Steve Nieve are, well, their awesome selves, and the two singers are integral, vital parts of the show and sound. Not to be missed. Upcoming next week: Willie Nelson, and 2 days later...

I wonder what they lost in the van theft, and if any of it was recovered. Probably a lot of what was used on Trace. What a drag! Those thieves should rot.
