Great post and analysis. I'd like to add (and I know it has already been discussed here) that I prefer Jay's singing style from the Trace/Straightaways era. His voice on Okemah is almost too high and whiny on some songs. Still a great record though.

Is it just me and my elementary understanding of the event industry or have concert ticket prices gotten absolutely ridiculous? I have a hard time reconciling the fact that I would have to shell out close to a $100 to see so called "working man" artists like Pearl Jam, Tom Petty, or Bruce Springstee...

The Chicks are mainstream country, but I think they are a step in the right direction. They at least co-write their songs and play their own instruments. Plus, you don't see them hawking pick-up trucks on television. I think they are way better than 99% of the crap that comes out of Nashville these ...

No disrespect to DBT I love them, but it does seem like they would open for SV. Oh well I would kill to see one of those shows!

Does anyone think that the higher pitch in Jay's voice is a sign that he's starting to lose it a little? Or is that just the way he prefers to sing now. Personally, I like the way he sang during the Anodyne/Trace period a lot better. If this topic has already been gone over, I apologize in advance.
