Anybody check them out? It's Jay's nephew's band. I believe they opened some SV shows. I'm not normally a bluegrass fan, but their new single "Big Dreams, Small Talk" is outstanding.

Hi All, I don't know if you guys are familiar with Brian Koppelman. He wrote the movie Rounders and currently writes the series Billions on Showtime which last year featured Son Volt's Sinking Down. Koppelman has a podcast called The Moment, and Jay is his guest this week. Haven't listened to it yet...

Chicago friends...I just noticed Son Volt added a show in July at SPACE in Evanston. For those of you who have never been, t's a really cool, very intimate venue.

I only listened to the first few songs of the stream. I'm seeing them in Chicago tomorrow, and I didn't want to get the full experience ahead of time. I gave the record a few close listens last night, and my conclusion is that I like the songs, but I don't love the record. With the sameness of it, it just doesn't work as a record for me. Don't know if that makes sense to the rest of you??? I was really struck by the beauty of Slow Burn last night.

It's always been my opinion that Son Volt is at its best when a record has a combination of roots and rockers. (Notes of Blue is a perfect example) I really like some of these songs on Union: Devil May Care, The 99, Rebel Girl... but it's all too much of the same tempo. The record moves at the same ...

Sounds like all mellow, mid-tempo songs. I was hoping for some Notes of Blue-esque rockers mixed in.
