Re: Sorry, Jay. I'm an idiot. W did go to Harvard.

Why did the members of the US military overwhelmingly vote for W, the guy who sent them to Iraq and who will keep them there? The guys in uniform love W, . to keep their jobs and be patriotic (which is really another term for people who don't know what to call what they are doing) which is another ...

Wow, my comments about one of my favorite singer's lyrics got nine pages of replies. Oh, well....it gave many of you something to wring your hands over other than the plight of the Club Gitmo detainees. (I bet they ate better than I did today..l I had was some nasty sandwiches and some type of pastr...

I changed the name of this thread to take responsibility for my idiocy concerning the 'Harvard son' lyric. I apologize to Jay for my mistake and my assertion that he should do his homework concerning W's education. I am the one who should have done his homework.

I started this thread, and I'll take responsibility. Apparently, I was 'owned' as I did not know that W went to Harvard to get his MBA. Okay, so I was an idiot on that point and retract my advice to Jay to 'do his homework.' I should have done mine. To other various posters..... Serving in the Natio...

Right Wing Republican and big Farrar fan here, just wanting to offer a few thoughts. I'm still undecided about the whole album, though I have to say that 'Gramophone' is the Farrar that I love. As you can guess, I do have a problem with the lyrics to Jet Pilot. It's too bad that some good instrument...

So far, most of those replying to Hoops thread have gone out of their way to explain how they're 'not really a Republican,' or 'not all that happy with the Bush Administration. I will go out of my way to say that I am a Conservative Republican Christian, which makes me part of that dreaded group kno...

Okay, a google search says the song was written about Sugarland Prison in Texas just after 1910. It was a 'black' prison. 'Hannah' is a term for the sun. I couldn't tell where there was 'no more 'cane'. The line is "Aint no more cane on the Brazos.'

Outstanding. I knew I couldn't be alone in thinking this is a great song. The notes in the CD say that Dylan and the Band sang it? I hate to use a cliche, but SV's version sounds 'haunting' and I want know what the lyrics are all about.

'Aint No More Cane' Thread

If this song on the restropective doesn't deserve its own thread, nothing does. I can't stop playing it. I didn't know this song at all, but I can't get enough of it as it has everything I love about Son Volt-The Voice with Boquist harmony, growling guitar, and Heidorn's drums. Best thing I've heard...

SV's version of 'Aint No More Cane' is glorious. It has everything I love about Son Volt. Jay's yearning voice with Boquist harmony, Heidorn's great drum sound, guitar tone that I can't even describe, and a great song. I keep playing it over and over.

I can diss on any president or congressman I want without fear of becoming a political prisoner. I can disagree with any policy in place without fear of my family being taken or tortured. The Iraqis now have this same freedom thanks to George Bush and the great U.S. military. I appreciate the fact t...

Boston's 'More Than A Feeling.' I would one day like to found a new country, just so I could adopt this solo as the national anthem.
