Now, I believe this to be an old blues saying; something you might throw in a song just for tradition, like saying "Jelly Ro...

Well, there are over 1,000 bands in town to play. Given that rock music is a male dominated scene, it would follow that there are plenty of men there. Men of every size, shape and fashion weilding the intrument of your choice: banjo, guitars, drums, piano, washboards, Jew's Harp. Rock star swagger to...

I've been on the backstage side of many a concert with many mid-level bands and seen many bands have their eight-ball of coke and 3k guarentee waiting for them when they arrive. Maybe I'm underestimating the popularity of Son Volt. But I've payed 15 or 20 dollars on several occassions just like the ...

Yeah, bands that get 3,000 dollar guarentees also tend get another luxury: backstage riders. In this agreement, they don't get things that say Def Leopard does, but they generally have requests for certain types of beer and a dinner of some sort, sometimes even drugs and maybe a bottle of champagne ...

As for radio play, well you would be supurised. You forget about XM radio which has genre specific stations. Plus, I'll hear snippets of SV songs on mTV programming from time to time as well as the VW commercial. There are soundtracks that you discount ("Back into your World" was in a movie called C...

2 shows per week??? Have you ever looked at their tour schedule? Try 5 shows per week. Minus a grand for expenses, divide 2K by 5 and you get 400 per member per show. 400 X 5 shows a week = 2 grand a week. Plus merchandise and record sales. Take out taxes. These band usualy play 200+ shows a year. Y...

That sounds about right for Trace. I imagine it continues to sell relatively well as it gets mentioned on a lot of lists. So it goes to follow that Straightaways and WST probably sold around 100,000 copies each. You know, Son Volt was doing fine finacially despite what many of you were saying. They ...
