twitcher,
i've played around with those line 6 delay modelers. they are cool - lots of sounds, fun to mess around with. don't know if i'd ever want to use one live, unless i had spent way too much time programming in advance.

does anyone have a recommendation on what to buy if i want a cheap (i mean really cheap) acoustic just to play around the house? i mean, is there any difference between the washburn or the epiphone or the jasmine if they're all 129 dollars? I would just play 'em each and see what sounds best to you...

where/when does it come on in Dallas? After relocating to DFW last year I quickly discovered that the radio situation is beyond hope.

I think Jay has become a much better singer over time, so he no longer has to strain or push notes out. I loved the rawness of the UT stuff, but I think it's cool how Jay's singing style has matured over time along with his songwriting.

Punch Drunk is in the Live EP, Jay played it at a number of solo shows before reforming SV.

cowboy-
check out "I feel alright" and "el corazon" which are his two best albums from the 90s imo. I'm not as much of a fun of the newer stuff, but he is still an amazing songwriter.

acoustic amps typically have premaps that result in a more natural sound than a DI box would. Also it gives Jay the chance to use it as a stage monitor, outside of the grasp of the soundman...

The guitarist was James Walbourne, all of 21 years old and imported from England. His main gig is playing with Peter Bruntnell. I thought he sounded great, extremely tasteful and professional. The rest of the band sounded great as well, very tight but soulful, not mathematic. Of course Jay kicked as...

Using a mic is definitely the best way to go. If you're doing any home recording I wouldn't even bother plugging in your acoustic. Go pick up a cheap condenser mic (or even a shure SM-57) and you'll sound 100 times better than plugged in. For solo acoustic gigs, my guess is Jay mics his acoustic, pr...

The DI takes the signal you're feeding it (from a 1/4" instrument cable) and converts to an XLR cable so it can be sent straight to a mixing board or recording device. A good DI shouldn't color or change the sound it's receiving, so "garbage in garbage out" applies. What type of pickup do you have i...

Holy shit. That is really sad. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, although Louris has repeatedly said "this is it" after every record since Mark Olsen left the band. So maybe they're just burned out. But still, they were a huge influence for me and I will miss 'em.
