Stuff I've kept but never play? I've got too many albums to list them all. Relevant to the alt-country genre: Jay Farrar - Sebastopol & Terroir Blues (these are among the many that haven't been unpacked since I moved in January) Old 97s - Debut album (the fake accent kills me) Lucinda Williams - Liv...

Jay's voice is kinda rough on the ears there. It sounds like from that 30-second snippet, that's the only thing significantly different from the original...and it's kinda rough.

I never thought much of Todd until I saw him here in little ol' Madison, IN back in May. I'm now totally in love with "The Devil You Know" and am gradually exploring some of his older stuff.

sky blue sky>easy tiger>the search now I'll get torched for that but... I don't think sky blue sky is that great, it sags a bit in the middle but it is still pretty decent and better than the other two. Man you have bad taste. Still trying to figure out what your taste is. All you do is whine about...

I'm really sick of all the comparisons between Jeff and Jay. As someone stated before, even in Uncle Tupelo it was a yin & yang kind of effect. Today they're completely separate from each other and, as far as I'm concerned, that's perfectly fine. My love for Wilco or Uncle Tupelo or Jay Farrar has n...

I never make a full 80-minute CD when introducing a band to someone, especially someone like Jay whose voice can be a turnoff to some people. I try to keep it to 10 songs. Get in, get out, leave an impression. An 80-minute CD can be a little overwhelming and, if the listener finds a few tracks in a ...

On the other hand, I was at Summerfest last year to see Wilco and I was there for Andrew Bird before them. The crowd was quite quiet and respectful. One of the best Summerfest crowds I've ever been a part of. We still got stuck standing up on the benches but it was a good time. And the Pabst rocks. ...

Just can't find it on this one. It's an album with some great tunes (The Search, The Picture, Circadian), some average tunes (Action, Underground Dream), and several throw-aways (Slow Hearse, Automatic Society, L Train). Needless to say, I'm happy to say it gets much better after "Slow Hearse " in a...

eh... the audience 'participation' part of "is that the thanks" is pretty pukey, i agree. You know what, though? It's a solo show. A fair portion of fans at the shows are casual and a little interaction never hurt anyone. Tweedy's trying to make it fun. The one solo Jay show I went to (with Mark Sp...

Since I've grown a little older and gotten a full time job, I've been able to buy more new music and it's caused me to listen to less Jay-related material. The new album just really did not hook me very much so I didn't have a really big Jay phase when that came out. I still am not a huge fan of Oke...

Re: Who Don't Your Friends Get?

What bands that you like do your friends just not get no matter how hard you try? Or do they just refuse to try? For me it's the Dead. I'm practically the lone Dead fan among my group. I'm in the same boat. I don't do drugs, refuse to touch them, but that's the first reaction I get from even close ...
