Re: Driving Around The West...

[quote="mcmoss99"]I just got back from California, AZ, and Nevada and made a few CD's for our rental Wrangler to drive from San Diego to Joshua Tree to Grand Canyon to Las Vegas. The CD's were heavy on Richmond Fontaine, Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo, The Futurebirds, Whiskeytown, and some other random son...

ensilager, I don't know how much of the "meh" feeling about Okemah has to do w/ the line-up change - at least for members of this board. I lurked here a good bit in 2005 b/c I was so excited for another SV album. My memory is that while the last-minute recasting of the band had some folks upset (and...

Streets That Time Walks (arguably Farrar's most brilliant lyrics) Walk You Down Carnival Blues I'm still mystefied, baffled, and befuddled by the track selection on The Search. At least three of the Deluxe Edition tracks would have made it onto the regular version in my world. Why the band would hol...

Never knew it as Dobbs. First time I was there was around '97 and by then it was the Pontiac. Never liked the Pontiac, and was always pissed when bands i wanted to see were booked there. Was glad when they started going to Khyber and elsewhere. I've been out of Philly since 2005 so I've missed a lot...

Either late '98 or early '99 at the Showbox in Seattle. Alvin Youngblood Hart opened and SV came out to back him up on his last few songs, which was pretty cool. hardwood floor, was dobbs the name of the club? Where in philly was it? Don't remember it, but didn't get to a lot of cub shows in philly ...

Thanks. I remember that one, for Relix magazine I think. He nailed the Kinks cover.

I've been looking for some stuff he's done on this tour, but the Googles aren't proving as helpful as I'd like them to be.

Farrar's Radio Sets on ACD Tour

He tends to do a lot of public radio visits/sets when they tour, right? It was mentioned on their tour blog that he did one in NYC. Anybody have links to any of these recordings?

That's a pretty sharp turn toward the mellow and mid-tempo right after the opener. Their typical M.O. is to play loud for 4-5 songs at the outset and then slow down. Well, it's in keeping w/ the more mild nature of ACD, I guess. All in all looks like a great setlist. Speaking of NYC, does anybody ha...

Worth remembering how SV 2.0 came together in the first place. Not exactly a recipe for a long-term partnership. It's more surprising that two of the original three guys are still in the band. And they've gelled into a tight rhythm section, IMO. As for his long-term track record w/ guitarists, Farra...

Enjoying the album quite a bit. I think this song's about/to Farrar's wife. References to their adopted hometown and to NOLA, where I remember reading that Jay lived for a bit while his wife was down there...I think around the time Trace was being recorded. Wow, I'm speculating to a bunch of strange...

Yes, like "croc." Troc is short for Trocadero. It's a popular venue for indie bands in Chinatown in Philly. Nice to be able to eat Burmese food and walk half a block to a show.

Where has SV 2.0 been playing in Philly? Troc? TLA? What has attendance been like? (Not counting the Black Crows supporting show and SV's XPN studio show). I'm surprised they're not hitting Ill-adelph, but maybe the money's not there.
