I do think it's a legitimate concern given how exactly the last album title so closely foretold the content of the album.

Alright, I'm going to say it... The title of this new album scares me. Honky Tonk has some moments of triumph (I'll put Angel of the Blues on any Jay best of list), but most of it sounds cliche to me. Like an artist going out of his way to make a record that sounds like other country artists/classic...

Yeah, Steve Earle might fall into the storyteller category better than the poet. Same could be said for Springsteen.

I'd add Steve Earle, Ben Gibbard, the guy from Dawes to that list.

Wow...I thought this was a place where I was supposed to share my opinion of the song. Wasn't that the point of the poster sharing it?

I change my post: I love Jay. Everything he does is brilliant. To hell with anybody who feels differently.

I wasn't there, but here's a review...

Same set list as previous shows... Jay seemed in fine spirits, but not very talkative... Played a new song about the revolution in Ireland... Gary and Eric were in fine form...

I know some folks on the board got tuned into Ben Gibbard/Death Cab for Cutie when Ben worked with Jay on the One Fast Move... project. Saw Death Cab live for the first time last night. When they come to your town, do yourself a favor and go. Excellent show from beginning to end.

This whole duo thing is getting stale for me. No disrespect to Gary/Jay. I went to the City Winery show in Chicago, and it was fun, but not a whole lot of energy in the room, and I've grown tired of the HT songs/vibe. Really itching for something new and loud from Jay.

Perhaps an interesting topic of conversation...Does Jay have good taste in his own music??? I can point to some specific situations where I don't think he does. For example, choosing Down to the Wire as the first single from ACD, omitting Juke Box of Steel from most ACD tour set lists, not including...

I would be all for it, but I don't get the sense that Jay's a very nostalgic guys. Imagine the payout he'd get for even a one off Uncle Tupelo gig, and he's never gone down that road...

Excellent show Friday. Missed SV when they stopped in Chicago during the HT tour, so this was my first time seeing Gary in action. What an excellent musician. Pretty much the same set list. He played a cover during the encore I don't know. We also got Underground Dream, but no Back Into Your World. ...
