Man, I can't remember the last time I posted on this forum, but I thought I'd add my thoughts about Ledge. I haven't seen much of his work, but his performance in Brokeback was one of the most impressive acting jobs I've seen in years. That goddamn movie broke my fucking heart--thanks in no small pa...

Here's one of my favorite songs of all time...from Safety Watsonville Waltz You call me from a pay phone in Watsonville it's nightime I hear cars in the background your voice trembling "it's been two months and I can't sleep anymore," you state flatly, there's fear in your voice but the words are ba...

RF is one of the best bands I've ever heard. Willy Vlautin's lyrics are absolutely incredible. Not everything is as depressing as you might think based on the examples noted above (see the album Post to Wire for example)--but you can count on Willy to express a raw vulnerability that you'll find wit...

Not just classy, but obviously immensely intelligent, too. Don't blame all women just because you fools are poor judges of character and/or have bad luck. If your spouses or significant others are lousy, then (presuming you're not in an abusive relationship) you might start by taking a look at what ...

Twitch, You make a solid point, I must admit. I'm not saying that I think that U2 should give their product away, but I don't feel obligated to support them (financially) like I do another band. Although I recently went to a U2 show and paid for the tickets and all, I didn't feel like I needed to bu...

I have no idea either, but I sort of take offense with the notion that it is none of our business. Of course it is. We're consumers and fans. In the current industry, we have a lot of choices about how we go about buying music and otherwise supporting musicians (and, hell, art altogether, I guess). ...

#1: My mom saw Chuck Berry one night at 1 a.m. at a Taco Bell in Wentzville, MO (near where I grew up). #2. I stood in line to buy a pack of smokes RIGHT behind Burning Spear. I could have said "hi", but I didn't. #3. When I was 16, I worked as a busboy/dishwasher at a truckstop diner. I saw Brett H...

This thread has really surprised me--I like the DBTs, but the BEST band in the world today? I've seen them live and I have a couple of their albums--I give them a lot of credit, but are you guys serious? I am a HUGE Richmond Fontaine fan and they came to mind when I first read this question--so I'm ...

U2.

They're probably the most impactful and I personally believe they're as good today as they've ever been.

The boss earned his name and he'll be remembered as one of the two or three most important song writers of the era. Nebraska is, I believe, the best place to start--at least if you aren't too crazy about the E-Street band. I've never been a huge fan of the band, but other fans feel differently and t...

Here's a couple:

Jesus WAS my co-pilot, but we crashed in the mountains and I had to eat him.

In case of rapture, can I have your car?

Of course an old favorite: A village in Texas is missing its idiot.

Jeff Tweedy did a stage dive onto my friend's head in Portland during the "Being There" Tour. That show was nuts. At the end of the show the roadie played a few heavy metal and classic rock songs while the rest of the band hung out on stage.

Trell, I see your point and largely agree. But as much as I'd like to downplay the power/influence of evangelical xtians in the US, they represent somewhere along the lines of 40-45% of the U.S. population according to every polling organization that tracks those stats. It is said that this is why B...

Trellis: Do you really believe that (and I'm paraphrasing here) almost no christians believe in Pat Robertson's crap? Then how can you explain the fact that the 700 club has been on television for at least the better part of my lifetime (30 years or so, I would guess) with millions of viewers? I wis...
