Hey, Pat has plenty of purpose in that band. Maybe his guitar isn't needed as much but his keys go really well with Mike's and his vox are great too.

Wow, didn't know there was such hate for this album! To each there own for sure, but I think its amazing. I saw Wilco for the first time 2 months ago and now consider them one of the greatest bands ever. The lineup is great. I don't know how realisticly the movie and book portrayed JB but based on w...

I'm glad someone brought that up because I was about to. Yes, men are idiots. So are women. The percentage might be slightly higher for men though. I'd say 80% for the men, 75% for the ladies. And yes, this is an oh so scientific statistic.

I didn't even hear UT until '99, and didn't hear Whiskey Bottle until the Anthology came out. At that point it was instantly one of my favorite songs. It's just perfect, the point where the pedal steel comes in towards the end of the chorus. Of course, the live versions are a little lackluster in my...

Probably in your head. But, try using heavy delay and a wah pedal, it works ok for War on War.

Re: one happy listener

I'd love to hear someone try on "Acuff Rose". or One of you gifted instrumentalists giving "Sandusky" a shot. I wish I had the skills to add a song myself. But, alas, I might kill a good portion of town with my vocals ... and not in a R.U.P. way! -- CC Oh man, you didn't just suggest we put a Jeff ...

I used a yamaha cassette 4 track. And I'm sure you can tell. I recorded the drums with one mic (placed in between the hats, snare and left crash). Then did the two guitar tracks, dubbed them on one track, which left me two tracks for the bass and vocals. Took me all of two hours. :D And, again, I'm ...

The ramped up 6 String was great Keith21! Hey mcarlton, were you at MCMF? If so then you'll know the irony in this. This was a song I'd heard acoustic for so long that it was getting, dare I say it, annoying? But Jay totaly rocked it out at MCMF and now Keith does it too. Hell, Keith might have tho...

Anyone have any tips for flac files on a mac? I've yet to successfully convert any flac files, using macflac. Any other programs I should try? THanks.

Welcome,
I'd say start out with either Sebastopol or Terroir Blues, but not Stone, Steel, Bright Lights. Its a good live record, but maybe not the best way to introduce the songs to you.

I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but I was backstage, and during Son Volt's time honored ritual of pre-show barefooted buck dancing (A reqiurement set by Jay, to try to stay in touch with real Americana), I saw that Jay was wearing black polish on his toenails, and, not being the "best of buck danc...

I have learned two things from this board: First, Jay has Real Ultimate Power (he plays guitar ALL the time) and the second has just been confirmed by Brian (and I can't beleive no one else picked up on this bombshell, instead you all got hung up AGAIN on some dullard who signs up to the board two ...

Jeez, you're a narrow-minded individual. What do you think of Uncle Tupelo's cover of I Wanna Be Your Dog (or Gimme Gimme Gimme or I Wanna Destroy You)? Son Volt may be Americana, but for as long as they've been together Jay has said explicitly in more than a few interviews that they are a rock band...
