Also want to say I love that they open the encore with "Hearts and Minds." Great song. Nice waltz for dancing.

Los Angeles - Lodge Room - Oct. 9, 2019

I’ll keep it quick here… someone else chime in and share your memories… Amidst the Santa Ana winds and lingering PG&E power shutdowns (to say nothing of the Dodger meltdown happening just up the Arroyo Parkway) the VOLT descended on So Cal, bringing their unholy noise to Highland Park. In a rare...

Yes! I am there!!! Pappy's is a must. Also, Jay rarely plays the east side of Los Angeles. He usually plays the historically rich but currently dead West Hollywood Sunset Strip type spots like the Troubadour and the Roxy. Seeing him in Highland Park should be fun.

Thanks for the heads up. Saw Magnolia Electric Co. open for Son Volt in Los Angeles at the El Rey theatre. I believe it was "The Search" tour. Was already a Molina fan and was super excited for the show. They were probably the best opening band I ever saw. Molina had a crazy electric stage presence....

"VOLT HITS SOUTHLAND BY STORM" --- Son Volt came to the West Coast with a pocketful of blues. Managed to catch them in Pioneertown and West Hollywood. They had played Stagecoach Friday night, which Jay at some point said had "kicked their ass" and that it was better to be here at Pappy and Harriet’s...

Wow. Unbelievable they were playing in St. Louis the night of Berry's passing. Always think of the great portrait of the music scene in "Pushed Too Far": "Take me back to the Mound City/Any night across town/Bennie for blues and James for barrel house/ The brown eyed handsome man is still around ." ...

Yeah, gotta say I'm really disappointed that our only option is Stagecoach this go-round. Must have a deal with the promoter or something. Don't know that I can justify a long drive for what will most likely be a midday set at festival prices. Don't have much interest in trying to navigate that who...

Just found a copy of the Sebastopol LP at Resistor Records in Monrovia, CA. It was on display in the prime territory of "cool new stuff wall." Damn straight! Great record shop, prices are on the boutique side but I love their selection regardless. They also had the new Dylan Japanese Tour EP. Hey al...

Alright! Thanks for the update Mark! Can't wait to hear it and maybe see some rocking shows. Speaking of Honky Tonk - the lyrics on that album are particularly strong. Lean and mean. Something about it always struck me as different. Like he made some kind of a turn and really trimmed the fat off thi...

LA seemed in alright spirits. I think the room was sprinkled with Warner Bros suits out for a wild comp night at the Troubadour - celebrating the 20th Anniversary Reissue of the album they've never heard. Really dug the new song - it made me think about the generally pretty huge influence of irish/c...
