Apparently the "we" in the line "we'd all have it made" means whitey, no? Clearly blacks, jews, gays, wouldn't "have it made". I really don't think so...You're analyzing it too hard. "We" means MODERN southerners. Not slave owners. As in: Everyone would like the same shit WE do! Patsy cline! Cajun ...

"If the south would've won" would certainly be considered racist to many people... Nah...It's just southern pride. Saying southern culture and cooking is great (it is). If The South Woulda Won Hank Williams, Jr. If the South would’ve won we'd a had it made, I'd prob’ly run for President of the Sout...

also i think it's important to point out once again that only 2 of the 20 or so songs actually mention race. most of them are about sex, including the one we're discussing. Yeah...The record i have makes fun of sex, race, politicians, and Jimmy Buffet. Seriously. He rakes over everything. It's a ri...

You are correct in all of your statements. I am only saying that many, if not most, of the listeners, use those songs as klanthems. I have experienced it first hand. When they link them with the clearly race intended Johnny Reb stuff, it defeats Coe's purpose. Isn't it ironic? Don't cha think? (Bec...

look...i really like DAC alot. RIDES AGAIN is a fantastic fucking record. i have DAC's first "X-Rated" album, NOTHING SACRED, on vinyl. It's actually one of my FAVORITE albums from him. Musically, it's disarmingly progressive. That record ROCKS. I mean, he's giving Terry Allen, Ray Wylie Hubbard, an...

Re: how many times do I have to arrange a band for you guy?

We have a bass player for the show next month...But it's too early to tell if he's "keeper" material. We're on ...

Any good bass players in LA?

Totally tacky, I know...But my band needs one, like now. This is the only board I trust to find musicians worth a shit. Any help would rock... http://www.myspace.com/jrjuggernaut And so this isn't TOTALLY non-Farrar related...Sharon confirmed to me via email OKEMAH isn't coming out on vinyl after al...

Does this "best of" contain the good stuff off "stereo/mono" No. if I remember correctly the Best Of only has a couple tracks off the 20 some-odd double LP. Buy STEREO MONO. SUICANE STEREO MONO COME FEEL ME TREMBLE Those are the best solo records if you ask me. The best stuff off of 14 SONGS and EV...

Stereo Mono is great...But I wouldn't dis all his late 90s solo stuff. I think SUICANE is his best record, including Replacements stuff.

I know I'm in the minority there, though.

As far as Replacements records, can't go wrong with TIM or PLEASED TO MEET ME.

This was my first time seeing Son Volt since 1996 and I was pretty excited to see them. There was a drum kit set up on stage all night and I was disappointed to see just the three of them playing.
Jay made a quip that they usually had a drummer and keyboardist...But that they joined a cult.

yeah, Son Volt was great. Lucinda was great. The rest was pretty freaking bad. This was billed as some sort of "acoustic" night. If acoustic music these days is white boys doing funky strums while rapping and trying to sound like either Jack Johnson or Dave Matthews, then plug me the fuck in. Almost...

In my opinion, there is only ONE, yes ONE, song that is appropriate to listen to when you are drunk and the bar is closing down for the night.

It is absolute magic when they start to turn off the lights, wipe up your spilled beer, and the jukebox starts to play:

DON'T STOP BELIEVING - Journey

Yep...Been waiting for it, too.

How about an official word from someone so I can quit wondering what's up?
