But sometimes this opposition comes rising up in me,
This terrible imposition comes blacking through my mind.

And you want to travel with her, and you want to travel blind
And you know that you can trust her,
For you've touched her perfect body with your mind

When I first heard Jay's music, I felt I had found a musical home. For the first time, in many ways, I began to understand what roots music really is. His music inspired me to look back in time when music was made without all the glitter and embrace the songs of Robert Johnson and Leadbelly. I also ...

Tell It to the Dust has stronger songs from the start to finish. I would recommend Dust over his latest effort.

A Musical Odyssey

I'm curious as to how others "found" Jay's music. I must confess I am a relative late comer to his music. Before 2003 I had never heard of Uncle Tupelo or Son Volt. For years I have been a big fan of the outlaw country sound, i.e., Waylon, Willie, Merle, Hank Sr. and Jr., and DAC. And, I rediscovere...

Thanks for the welcome. At the best I am an intermediate guitar player but have a decent voice. So, my playing is more an assist to my singing. An instrumental alone is out of the question at this point. I also am more comfortable finger picking and finger strumming vs. using a pick. The problem is ...

I was psyched when I found out the Bottle Rockets were booked at the Bamboo Room. For those in the central and south Florida area, I would highly recommend the Bamboo Room. Great acoustics and setting for live music but I would recommend making reservations. It only seats 125 to 150. The Bamboo Room...

OPEN MIC NIGHT

I'm new to this forum but have been a long time lurker. It appears there are a number of folks with varying degrees of musical talent and skills. Any advice to someone planning to debut at an open mic night in the next few weeks? One of my weaknesses is memorizing the lyrics. Thanks for any suggesti...

If I ever had a band(a little late in life at this point) I always intended it to be called The Sturgeon Generals. As far as favorite shows, I am sure Jay, S.V. and Gob Iron would have been at the top of the list, however, unfortunately, they do not make it as far south as South Florida. I once spok...
