I like Death Cab as well. My favorite album is their first, Something About Airplanes , which has their most personal lyrics and edgiest music. Last year's Narrow Stairs was hit and miss for me, but they made up for it this year with The Open Door EP , outtakes (and stronger songs) from last year's ...

To the OP, I think the idea of the mix is good but I would stay away from anything in chronological order and I would not include anything prior to the early 90's. It's also good to find a very catchy song to start it all off. If this friend listens to rock, he's likely been exposed to a decent amou...

Absolutely. I have no idea what Sigur Ros are singing in their songs, and I do not care to translate them either. But, there are many songs ruined by dumb lyrics. The worst songs for me use a combination of predictable rhyming cliches with lines repeated over and over.

I understand that. I am also a fan of UT. Not trying to stir the pot here, just posing a rhetorical question. I ask myself this question all the time - why do I feel compelled to compare one to another.

So if this the case, why do people continue to compare and contrast the two bands ad nauseum?

Except for the first two Wilco albums, I have yet to come across one that grabs my attention before a dozen spins or so. The two most recent CDs are still an improvement over A Ghost Is Born , which has songs that sound far better live. I like the albums from both Son Volt and Wilco, and, aside from...

Re: San Diego

It was a pretty weird place to see these guys with the marina and the indifferent crowd, but they definitely brought it to the stage. Hey. I'm new here, but I was at the show last night. I know what you mean about the crowd, but I'm not sure it is always indifferent. I thought it was a very appreci...
