Feel free to recommend some restaurants. I haven't been to Atlanta in a couple of years and even then it was only for one night to see a band. I'll be there Friday-Monday this time around. Front Page News in Little 5 Points. Great vibe, great beer, awesome New Orleans-inspired menu. Also Six Feet U...

07/16, Roger Waters' Us & Them, Duluth, GA. I'm also going to the zoo in Atlanta to see a panda. Said Panda is my neighbor! My humble quarters are less than a mile from the zoo. Tim in the ATL That's wonderful, I've never seen a panda. Feel free to recommend some restaurants. I haven't been to Atla...

Side note: I put this Bowery Ballroom show on an I-pod that I haven't touched in a while. After listening to the show a couple times, I put the I-pod on shuffle. Atomic Power, Big Sur, two versions of Fool's King Crown, Sandusky and Rex's Blues played, some back to back, in a ten or twelve song run...

Re: Jay Farrar Covers Project

I know some folks around here are not always happy with Jay and company closing shows with covers, given his "rich back catalog" (I can't recall who said that) but I view it differently. I love it when I go to a show, any show, and the band pays homage to a band that came before or influenced them ...

<<There are a couple of bonus tracks on the new album including one that’s an Irish traditional tune and another that’s a song by Jackson C. Frank, who was a contemporary of Nick Drake’s.>> From the ND interview. Nice. Both of those were played last year on tour at one point or another. Ballymena, ...

Though I had to look it up, I liked the use of the word dysthymic.

I wonder how (or if) Ballymena fits into all of that, as Jay doesn't seem to release too many one-off songs, singles or the like.

I guess it's semantics but the idea was cover songs performed (sung) by Jay, not Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo or the Boquist brothers. You can hear Don't Cry No Tears on youtube though the recording is not so great. The couple of songs listed twice were due to me not being sure which version I liked bette...

I always thought of Truck Stop Girl as more of a Kelly Willis cover than a Jay Farrar one even if the whole band is backing her on it. And what I remember of Seven to a Room and Old Dutch is they were written (and sung) by one or both of the Boquists. As for additions to the list, I found the follow...

People bemoan the death of this board but I don't. I feel it's a mirror image of the artist we all adore. Generally speaking, there are few cat/dog videos, pictures of people's ugly children or stupid fucking puns. This board serves the very purpose it should, a place where like-minded people can pr...

For Dev, Wherever She May Be

You gave this to the board years ago and I passed it along to my sister who now forwards it to my entire family on the first day of Fall every year. Thank you. IT’S DECORATIVE GOURD SEASON, MOTHERFUCKERS By Colin Nissan I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to get my hands on some fucking gourds ...

His political viewpoint was never too hard to figure out anyway. Something that bothered me though, “Trump’s success is a sign of how broken things have been for so long..." I don't think things are that broken, not perfect by any means but perfection doesn't exist. Not even in song form. To me, Tru...

While we wait for Son Volt's new album or at least more info, here's something from the Wilco: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2016/feb/20/wilco-frontman-jeff-tweedy-trumps-success-is-a-sign-of-how-broken-things-have-been Oh yeah. Politics on this board usually goes pretty well. And we get to tal...

Perhaps if you had put down the merlot... By the way, thanks for your review. I wish Jay would come a little further south. He used to stop by New Orleans pretty regularly, not anymore. I begrudge people living in larger cities with higher populations for their access to live music but it dawned on ...
