Hey el caballo loco, I was looking back in this thread and saw Feral Fire by Glossary. I LOVE their CD For What I Don't Become--it is amazing from start to finish. Have you ever heard Dexateens? Another relatively unknown and remarkable band--currently touring with Alabama Shakes--Dexateens should b...

I agree that stage patter is lame. I like the way Jay moves it along at a brisk pace, and you get more music!! It IS nice to hear Jay speak. but a little is enough, and so he remains mysterious. Some people must be conditioned to hearing mumbling between songs, like maybe they forgot the song titles...

mzkmm-- I do appreciate your post. In all honesty, that memoir from the book made me feel sick, and it kind of ruined the book for me--it's just that awful. However, I did read the rest of the book, and I kept it, as well. Obviously, this was a tragedy that Jay remembers vividly--and I am sure he wa...

It would be easier to take if the boy's treatment were known after the fact only. I can't believe that teachers back then had no duty to report suspected or obvious abuse to some authority--maybe not "Social Services," but the police, a church, SOMEONE. Orphanages existed back then, as did foster ca...

Hey, Tragic Fig. You have every right to desire as much as you can get. If I were able to pursue Son Volt in a Grateful Deadish multiple tour dates frenzy, I would LOVE to hear a different set each night--and expect it, too. Just think if the aforementioned torrents were ALL DIFFERENT sets--awesome!...

In order to pick up a few songs I missed in concert, I download torrents that are generously provided on this message board. And, I was fortunate to hear a great version of Hoping Machine live--I hadn't heard it before. Personally, I think the shows are a thoughtful mix of material. Mr. Spencer writ...

Oh, come on. The narrative clearly states that the boy had shown up at the Farrar home looking for help in the middle of the night. The boy had also REPORTED abuse to teachers and neighbors. There is no comparison to the Castro case. Metal plates in his head and second-degree burns--a little hard no...

Jay's book
Was anyone else bothered that the Farrars did not try to directly help that little boy from their neighborhood? I found it shocking that he was allowed to die in such an awful way. Why didn't anyone help him???
