When it's real quiet, people might tell you stories. A woman told me that her son, who had died, came to her through a dream to comfort her: "I'm cruisin', Mom". A guy I used to work with told me he was messin with out of body trips and he could feel some evil prescence bird-doggin him part of the w...

Mystery, indeed

Heard that little gem "Let the Mystery Be" on the way home, resulting in this post.

Losering - Stranger's Almanac - Whiskeytown Speaking of ND, in the 2005 anniversary issue, Stranger's Almanac was among their top 10 Americana CD's (Trace #2, Car Wheels #1). The repetition of the long musical phrase reminds me of "Bolero". A critic who heard its debut wrote that it was the work of ...

Why I spend time on a music message board

Look at what each candidate will do to hasten the downfall of the American republic and culture: 1. Escalation of useless, costly wars: McCain, Hillary 2. Uncontrolled immigration of unskilled people accustomed to oppressive govts: Hillary, Obama, McCain 3. Expansion of fed gov into universal health...

This guy comes closest to my views of all candidates. I actually voted for him for president in '88 when he ran third party. He is against this war and American military involvement in foreign countries in general. You only fight when you need to. He is also against big government social schemes, eg...

Tonight's the Night - Tired Eyes
Read an interview where NY said TTN was as close as he came to creating art. Few of us would name any of the songs on TTN in our NY five favorites, but lots would probably call it his best album.

The only obvious conclusion

Belichik has sold his soul. Not only was his team one or two levels above the Steelers, but he gets all the calls and bounces.
If the Steelers are lucky, they'll get to do this again next month. Doubt if anybody will be making any guarantees then.

Rhymes with Anodyne

Picked up a flood-damaged copy of Rainy Day Music for $5 in Millvale last weekend. Angelyne's been with me since. Sweet on the outside, with a tasty dark center. Gary Louris doesn't seem to run out of catchy melodic ideas - all different. It must be tough - Steve Earle is repeating whole phrases eve...

A Satryricon of Cacophony

In the song "The Search", I'd say he trying to find something worthwhile to do, think or write about in the "Satyricon of info wherever you go" and "modern cacophony", and maybe that's the theme for a lot of the CD. But, particular to "Satellite", Lord's bringing up "Delta blues bucket will keep you...

Orson 'n' Anton

From Satellite: "Movie lines in the night air pass, Orson Wells and Anton Karas" The intersection of OW and AK is "The Third Man", a British film noir from 1949. Orson didn't write (Graham Greene) or direct (Carol Reed) or star (Jos Cotten), even though he was in his prime. Not to spoil it, but he p...
