My God, "Hoping Machine" is fabulous! I think it's top 5 in Jay's entire catalogue. And that's saying a lot. I get chills every time I listen to it. Tim in Chapel Hill I agree that this song certainly ranks very high up on Jay's greatest songs list. Just beautiful, and one of his absolute greatest ...

Victor Jara artwork
Was the cover art for Okemah inspired by this Victor Jara album? Just curious, he was a folk/protest singer like Woody, maybe there was a connection. Maybe this was discussed back when it came out, I can 't remember.

Canyon Song From Tour With Jay
Does anyone know the name of the song that Canyon opened with during several of the shows opening for Jay back in 03/04? It was heavy on the ebow and the chorus was something like "I'd rather be somewhere lost in California" or something like that. I have several recordings of it, saw them do it liv...

I would probably have to go with Yankee Hotel Foxtrot as the best of the decade. Just a great album, all the way through, great songs, and the last great album Wilco made. Followed closely by Okemah and the Melody of Riot and probably Songs for the Deaf from Queens of the Stone Age. Among hundreds o...

Okemah
I am a pretty big fan of the last 3 Son Volt albums, all 3 have great songs and all 3 fit a certain mood I am in at a particular time. However, I think Okemah, which I am listening to right now, is the best of the 3. There is just something kick ass and incredible about this album, it's songs, the g...
