Beautiful piece, Jim. Read it earlier today while at work and had problems keeping a straight face. I couldn't believe it when Marius posted the news yesterday. So sad.
I really wish I had met Ben. We had so much fun online. Gay fun. :-) But damn, it was long ago...

While on the subject, there are many here I'd like to meet. Especially those of you who are my friends also at the other place. Doug, the "Manufactuerer of many a Mort Moniker", it would be great to "hang out" again. As Scott said a few posts ago; get yourself a FB account.

I've met Mark, Marius and Angela. Hopefully it won't be long until I see you guys again!

It's nice that this thread is getting revived but just to be clear, word spread today that our beloved revolutionary sweetheart Ben "Maura Tierney" Hilton, died in early June of this year.

I'd really like to meet all of you lovely people......but I'd really like to meet my man SHUCK OWENS. Fehn and I almost met at the SV show in Baltimore during the Okemah tour but we missed each other. Mark T.

I texted him earlier today, but of course there wasn't much use in that. I was going to ask him if he wanted to join up for the Dream Syndicate in Madrid next month. Then I thought I'd get his home number as it's been a while since I got his cell phone number, and BBC news is all over the page. I can't believe he went out this way.

I miss him a lot.

The moment I saw the email subject, I knew.

The late nights that I spent bullshitting with Ben, both here and email, were fun, sad, emotional, good and truly real, times. I felt so close to him back then. I felt honored when he started to really share with me. Possibly the funniest bastard I ever knew.

Damn you, Maura, for not meeting me in London all those years ago. I understand why you couldn't go through with it but damn you just the same. I also forgive you for never getting me the Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine t-shirt that you promised. All of the bootleg live cds more than made up for it, though.

I am so happy that you saw Chelsea finally win Champions League. I'll bet Drogba knew you needed it.

Sail on, sail on Soton sailor.
I'll see you when I get there.

Mwah! (big wet kiss)

See the losers in the best bars
Meet the winners in the dives
Where the people are the real stars
All the rest of their lives.

As long as we can sail away
As long as we can sail away
There'll be wind in the canyon
Moon on the rise
As long as we can sail away.

There's a road
stretched out between us
Like a ribbon on the high plain
Down from Phoenix through Salinas
'Round the bend and back again.

I have met exactly one person from this board. My hunch is that this person probably regrets the effort... I'm a miserable sod.

I wish I had met Maura.
