"Say hello to......the blue side haaaangin' arou-ha-hound"

What a great opening line.
Not even
cool winds whipping through this town
could ever be enough
to tear the will down

That's the best moment on the whole album, and a fantastic line.

Listened to "Flow" last night with headphones (and high). That song is amazing. I heard layers of guitars that I had not previously noticed with regular speakers (probably due to my low-grade stereo). It struck me as a very complex composition; I particularly liked the subtle riff that is played while Jay sings "...same as I leave it", "...words of the weather man", and "...three's a charm". If you haven't heard it, put on your headphones and check it out. Get lit too.

It really is a small world
"country rock band, Drive by Truckers" ???? That sure wouldn't be the descriptive genre that I would use. But I am guessing he wrote his own wikipedia based on the inclusion of the Little League championsjips (for his son's team) so it must be his definition of the Drive by Truckers.

Very interesting, by the way.

I find this impressive

"Jay Farrar
vocals, guitars, dulcimer, harmonica, piano, electric piano, organ, chamberlain
Jim Boquist
backing vocals, bass, piano (7), slide guitar (4)
Dave Boquist
guitars, lap steel, fiddle, viola
Mike Heidorn
drums, percussion
with:
Eric Heywood
pedal steel (14,13)
Dave Barbe
kenyan rattle (13)"

quite a lineup and assortment of instruments...kenyan rattle (?)
Interesting. If you google "Kenyan rattle" this post is the sixth search result. Apparently, to paraphrase Will Ferrell, not a lot of songs feature the Kenyan rattle.

Actually the album comes around pretty regularly on my mp3 player. That and the soundtrack to Brokeback Mountain...I dunno if that is a sign of something or what..

I love Straightface. I used to seek out that track as a finale for my commute when I was back in Tokyo, just before I got back home. I played it loud.

And I like the distortion in the vocal. It works.

And Grifter, yep, I guess I already suspected it was a favorite of yours!
