Larry, if I write something, you will contradict yourself if you disagree.calexico wrote:Yo mama!trousersnakeandlarry wrote:I agree!dcarter wrote:Contrary to your obvious belief, sturgeongeneral, there are contexts where there is no place for flippant attempts at humor.
Jim, if you say Yo mama again, I'll crap my pants.
I generally concur however.

We don't need to solve the problems, nor can we.
Levity never hurt, but I do think we should show some respect and appreciation for the people involved so as not to kick 'em when they're down.
In this mine we breathe the same air
A little love given anonymously is the right thing in this small town
Then let them find their way. They might need some space, so let this thread pass and not make it another long comical or snippy work of art

They are like Potter Stewart's definition of obscenity. Most would probably rate 'we have the makings of a country song', in response to apparently sincere dark thoughts, as flippant.

to an extent i also concur. humor in "those contexts' should not be merely flippant. it should at least contain some satirical and sardonic elements. it should cause one to stop and ponder for an instant. it should cause an itch that requires a scratch. flippant humor rarely possesses this quality. all i would contritely. politely, and meekly request from you dc, as the moderator du jour, is to define what 'those contexts' are.
wink, wink.
wink, wink.

Also, nobody has recomended Jesus. Now, normally I keep my light under a bushel but this thread has really been bothering me, because I do care. Whether you believe or not, I've never seen Jesus or the bible steer one person wrong. In fact I can name a bucnh of people that they've truly saved.
Trust Jesus!
If you don't believe me, Just ask Slobberbone!!!
That's it. I won't say no more.
