I think there are a few tables on the sides. Just an open area in the front and an upstairs balcony that looks right over the stage.

i am going to the philly show and wonderd what to exspect of the northstar .ex are there tables or is it standing

Don't get me wrong - i like the NS - ever since the khyber cleaned itself up( a real tragedy), the NS is the last real bar in philly which gets good acts (Bob Mould, J Mascis, etc) - given his current material, though, the Tin Angel would be perfect.

I think he can fill the North Star. When he did the solo gig at the TLA is was a bit cavernous. But there are nicer, smaller places than the North Star. Maybe he likes the dump atmosphere. I sure do.

for roots rock/alt-country fans, this is a great double bill. Dave Alvin at the Tin Angel at 7PM ( and 10 as well), and Jay at the North Star at 9. The only thing i don't understand about this is why Jay is playing the NS? - its a cool bar/dump but there are much better places in philly to play.
