I think it's the Midleton Very Rare but of course I can't remember...

Midleton is only 15 minutes away from here. It's a very popular drink it seems. My father in law has a bottle of Old Reserve since about 1974 and every Christmas we try to get him to open it and always get denied.

Never thought this board would be so helpful around the holidays but I got some great music and booze tips. Cheers to a group with great ears and suspect livers!!

Tullamore Dew is good. I prefer Speyside stuff however.

That Middleton Very Rare is great but damn pricey. I would drink that stuff All Night Long if I had the cash.

Black Bush, Bushmills and Jameson are good, Redbreast might be the best (a little more expensive)

From the Wire....

McNulty: Jameson's, please.
Bartender: Bushmills alright?
McNulty: Bushmills? That's protestant whisky!
Bartender: The price is right, ain't it?

I was introduced to this one a few St. Patrick's Days ago. Yummy.

Thanks for the info derek. That is almost exactly my experience so far. Makers is my favorite bourbon, and I've tried Bushmills and Jamisons and found Bushmills to be slightly more to my liking although I am really liking both.

I'm fairly new to this one as well. I first tried it several years ago when I worked in bars but found my tastes ran closer to American whiskey. Makers is arguably my favorite there, at least for the price. A liter down here (AL) runs about $35, lots of sin tax in Alabama.

As for Irish whiskey, I've tried both of the bottom shelf Bushmill's and Jameson's and found they are very similar with the Bushmill's being a little smoother, though not much. When I stepped up to the next level, which should be the Black Bush (9-11 yrs. old) and the Jameson's 12 year-old, I found the Jameson's to be smoother, though for the additional money, I would stick to the lower tier until I know more.

One of my favorite things to do with Irish whiskey is to soak whole vanilla beans in some for a week or two and then make Creme Brulee with them. Outstanding.
