I am not on Facebook. I have been thinking a lot lately about how I prefer to be away from people. My wife and I have been talking about it. When we are sitting on our porch on Friday afternoon, drinking a beer, listening to shuffle, doing crosswords and watching our dogs, it's Eden. I used to think how cool it would be to have people over for porch time but I have realized that that would be ruinous. I wouldn't be able to enjoy an excellent song that comes up because someone wouldn't know it/like it and/or they'd want to talk during it. People basically need to shut the fuck up.

When there is a get together we rarely go. It won't be long until no one asks anymore. Not that there'd be anything wrong with that.

On Saturday's we usually ride our bikes to the river walk by the art museum. It's about the only place where Tampa looks like a real city. But I digress. We end up at our local. We sit at the bar and do crosswords or read. We have been going there for 15 years at least so it's our true 3rd place but more and more, we don't want anyone to talk to us for more than quick basic hello stuff. I'm trying to finish Friday's and Saturday's puzzle, the week's hardest! So shut the fuck up about whatever the hell inane bullshit you are telling me. I can talk to anyone about anything, hell, I read the newspaper but I don't feel like kicking the k-knowledge about March Madness just because I can and it'll keep the conversation going. Last night we were praying that two other regulars would not see us. I told my wife that I only want to talk to her because we don't talk to each other unless we have something that needs saying. We have long periods of silence. It's blissfully perfect. Others, if there's dead air, have to fill it with whatever. Please shut the fuck up.

Why in the hell would I want to be on Facebook? Why the fuck do I care what you did and why the fuck would you care what I am doing? Don't get me wrong. I enjoy the art of conversation but increasingly only on my terms. My wife is the only Facebook I require.
All this reminds me of the Westerberg tune AAA? Honestly, I feel the same at times. Do you still do BrewCo or have you moved to one of the new SH joints closer to home?

I'm jealous of DC.......................something is wrong with me cuase I don't talk much.......................

PS > I saw a Ronnie Earl show this past weekend and for whatever reason I was emotionally touched after the show. No singing, very little talking, it was incredible.

Not sure what that has to do with the thread other than words can be overrated

It should be obvious that I am a (somewhat) different man. My post frequency has tapered way off.

A whole shitload of truth, done in DC way of course.

People make mindless small talk for whatever reason. Quiet and thought is way under rated. "We have long periods of silence. It's blissfully perfect"...too much talk logically means not alot of thought is going on.

DC, you are lucky your wife gets you tho. She's your lifeline that allows it all and keeps you from Ted Kazinsky land.

PS My wife talks way too much. She makes up for it in many other ways including turning this loser into a winner.

I had a funny Harvey Pekar moment this morning. I got stuck in the grocery line behind an old Jewish lady that wanted a refund for apples she was overcharged for.....last week. True story. Life is beautiful.

Doug, I don't think there's enough people NOT on FB to sufficiently man a small company. Can't be done.

Think twice before you tie your name to message boards...
You think you'd get in trouble with your boss if found out?

Besides that, Doug said it how it is:
dcarter wrote:Or just make sure you don't say anything you'd regret, no matter the name you use. If I were a personel (SP) director, I'd search. Most of these Facebook morons, why on Earth would anyone hire/retain them?
People who want me to hire them often befriend me on Facebook right after applying, most of these people have a gazillion "friends" and their hobby is Facebook. You'll just have to hope that their mouth at work isn't quite as loud and unfiltered as telling by their FB-profile. Of course you tend to stay away from religious lunatics, racists, and people who can't separate a truth from a lie. If I had an employee who wrote shit I didn't like on Facebook or a message board, so what?

I know about 50 or so people here by first and surname + I've met about 35-40 of those again. Some (like me) have certain anger fits from time to time, but most behave very civil to each other. I usually find it way easier to converse with the people I know more on a personal level.

If you don't have strong personal opinions, you can go nameless, but if you want to get down and dirty, might as well give your name so that can be avoided.
