Thanks for all the kind words. This is an on-going project, I suspect there will be a part two at some point. I'm sure some of you have songs not on the list, I have a few others as well but the quality is so poor I left them off. That said, if anyone has something they'd like to add feel free to send them to me.

Windshield, I loved your Planet Caravan, good job.

As always, let me know if there are any problems with the download and I'll do what I can to fix it. This is a large file, 608 mb. Sorry, not available on vinyl.

Dam what a list, I love the fact that Jay does a cover song.
The man has turned me on to some great artist.

On a side note, the first time I saw Steve Earle, I think it was the Trans Blues tour. He covered Nirvana Territorial Pissings.

I really like Jay's covers. He's great at covers. Great project.

Speaking of Sabbath, on the Giant Sand covers album "Cover Magazine" Howe plays "Iron Man."

3. “Iron Man” (Iommi, Butler, Ward, Osbourne)

-One of the greatest songs ever written and oddly over looked for reinterpretation. I heard the ëLibre de Graseí boys playing their set one night and had an immense desire to utilize the piano with them. Bringing them in to attempt Ozzy became a kind of obsession. After the obtuse session, I realized the recording of my bathtub drain might fit nicely over the top. Ooh, hear how it mixes delightful with the congas?

Jay Farrar Covers Project

Post by derekf »

I know some folks around here are not always happy with Jay and company closing shows with covers, given his "rich back catalog" (I can't recall who said that) but I view it differently. I love it when I go to a show, any show, and the band pays homage to a band that came before or influenced them in some way. In that spirit, I've been working on this for a while.

Before posting a link to download, I wanted to make sure that first there is a desire to hear the collection and second, that it won't piss anyone in authority off. Perhaps Mark Spencer will weigh in on the subject. I tried to only include live shit that isn't commercially available and in a couple of cases there are 2 versions because I couldn't figure out which one I liked better.

Now, if only Jay would discover his inner Black Sabbath.

Anyhow, let me know, I'll be back tomorrow.
