For those who havent kept up, REM release redo's of the first 4 cd's which are remastered and have another whole cd of live or demos. Amazon has all that stuff. And of course these were my favorite cd;s of theirs. I caught on to these guys just before Fables came out.

First CD i ever bought was Fable of the Reconstruction.

Peter Buck stood in the back of the 40 watt club and was blown away by a bunch of young guys trying to change the world by singing folk songs in a grunge world. March 16-20 holds up as one of the best albums I have ever owned. I believe Peter Buck had a lot to do with that excellence.

REM is one of the all time greats. They were the soundtrack of my high school days. Without REM, I may have never found Uncle Tupelo. In my opinion - by playing to the masses, REM opened the window to the world of Americana/Alt Country. For those of us who were mesmerized enough to follow that road, some ended up here.

I haven't played a REM album in several months. Yet I feel a bit numb and like I've lost one of my best friends. Also proud that a bunch of misfit southern boys changed my world

Green got me through college. Still have my room mate's CD which I never gave back... serves him right for running up $90 worth of 900# calls on my bill.

All you hear is time stand still in travel
And feel such peace and absolute
The stillness still that doesn't end
But slowly drifts into sleep

Glad I bought some scotch yesterday to toast the boys. Love em. Looking forward to the most gigantic box set of all time.

Count me as another for-a-time-in-my-life-R.E.M.-were-it person. Shaking Through is perfection.
