The review starts out:

"Jay Farrar's music since leaving behind Uncle Tupelo had suggested the work of a man who has little desire to be hemmed in by the sounds he created in the past (not unlike the attitude of his former musical partner, Jeff Tweedy). "

99 out of 100 reviews since Being There / Straightaways came out usually had the names above switched around. I guess this guy is the 1 out of 100!

I think the reviewer has keen insights into Mr. Farrar's new opus. He notes that "[t]he album's production is at once adventurous and spare." This is true. I find the songs/performances/production reflect and reveal Jay Farrar's appreciation for and knowledge of roots music, as well as his innovative qualities as an artist. Very impressive music-making of a high caliber.
