Yes Son Volt was mostly Jay. But Son Volt was also Dave's fiddle & lap steel, Mike on the skins and most noticeably Jim's backing vocals.

Even when Mike left and several others came on board, Tupelo was still Tupelo. This is Jay Farrar with a band. It is not Son Volt.

I'll buy it and I'm sure I'll love it. But please, call it Fuck Your Yankee Blue Jeans, call it Sans Heidorn, whatever.

What's next, form a band with Henneman and call it Uncle Tupleo? Why not?

While I think this is sad in a way it is still a lot more most of us thought possible not so long ago....I don't hear any arguments for Wilco not to be called Wilco.....I for one am still looking forward to it.

Looks like Jay took a page out of Jeff's book.

Change everybody in the band, except for the lead singer, and keep the same name.

I agree that the idea of Jay making new music with a band is cool.

But it still isn't Son Volt.

At least Jay is still putting a rock band together. To be honest, I don't give a shit about the other three guys - it's all about Jay and it's all good.
