Nope, WKDF was/is 103.3. I like Lightning 100 though.

Are you referring to Lightning 100?? I used to listen to Thunder 94 (alternative) while it was around (early-mid 90s), then Lightning (sister station) which was I guess adult alternative. Not much to listen to here in Tallahassee...but I have plenty of Farrar/UT/Wilco etc. to keep me company...wahoo!

Go Red Sox!!!

When Trace came out, "Drown" was in heavy rotation for a while, especially on all of the "Edge" stations in OK and TX.

Probably was, but I'm sure there was a conspiracy somewhere.

I always thought he had a fight with M., just before going on the road. I thought she answered with "Been Set Free". Pretty cool fight if it's true.

Back when WKDF was a rock station they played Drown, and back then Nashville had a station that played country and rock music. The first time I heard Windfall was driving down I-40. I nearly passed out.

that song is so friggin' good they should re-release it. lol.....
i'm sure they were playing it on the radio in the southern half, but either way - not enough people heard it - or maybe the video didn't get played enough -
i like the video a lot, too. very good choice of setting, b&w to color change in the middle - the brothers rockin' out - just cool ass shit.

jay looks like a cross between john fogerty and glen danzig.

re-release that m'fer!

dc

It was pretty common in Birmingham, AL in 95 as well. It was the first Jay song I ever heard and it prompted me to get Trace with my Columbia House 12 CDs for a penny deal. I'd say I got my money's worth on that transaction. A couple of years later, I saw SV in Birmingham at Zydeco's. Also saw them in Orlando, FL in 99.

I was down in Louisiana back in 95 and they were playing Drown quite a bit on the radio.

Definitely; he's a very versatile artist.

I was even able to send a few songs from his library to a friend of mine who likes new wave and electronica...he now likes the Memphis Mix of Damn Shame, Fool King's Crown, and Prelude (Make It Alright) :)

Drown was also the first song I ever heard, and fell in love with it.

I'm not sure if I consider it his best work, because my music tastes shift from day to day, just like Jay's songs.

Somedays its his mellow, solo stuff like "Feedkill Change", "Barstow", "Too Early" (I know its not from his solo album) and "Deadman's Clothes".

Other days I'm ready to rock out, and dig "Drown", "Loose String", and "Straighface".

That's what I love about Jay, he has songs for all of my moods.

i know most of you won't agree, but i think that 'Drown' is the best song to come out of either farrar or tweedy - ever.
i have no idea what it's about, though. i've read the lyrics and i can speculate, but it's sort of vague.

i had friends on the coasts when it came out, and they both said it never got played on the radio - although we heard it here in st. louis, of course.
i figure it's the closest thing to a single either one of the boys have ever had - besides maybe jeff's 'casino queen', which i cannot stand. and even if i could stand it, it's a long way from 'Drown'....
wonder why it wasn't pushed harder - SV coulda sold more records i think if more peeps woulda heard that song.

it's a killer riff. fun as hell to play - u can even break a string if u wanna....
sticks in my head like peanut butter.

:P

Drown is the first Farrar song I ever heard. It had me hooked in a few bars.
