I played Son Volt one time I taught music in primary-school...

And I played Live in Seattle to some 7-8 year olds last weekend, they kinda liked it, thought they were listnening to some guy called Jacob Forbar or something though(you gotta love children, I'm not a scouser so I still call them that)

Oh, and I'm in the beginning of my 23rd year btw and I heard Jay for the first time about 2 years ago, been adicted ever since..
Entered via the Wilco way..

to summ it up, I'm 22, look older, act younger - and am a son of a gun

and the typical 20 year old doesn't know what music is, to answer your question gk...

no toddlers in the club???

ok......we need to get a fan in nursery school or kindergarten to register and post. there's no reason to NOT get our youth into the good shit ASAP.

i think "Mystifies Me" would make a great tune to play everyday at naptime! 8)

i have no idea what the typical 20 year old is listening to. my best friend is 27, and he turned me on to jay, so that explains that.

For some perspective, for you 20 year olds the first time I saw Jay perform you guys were about 5 years old, and I'm not even an oldie (or a youngie for that matter).

I'm tickled pink that younger people are finding their way to Jay, although I must admit it does surprise me.

What is the typical 20 year old listening to these days anyway?

kittkatt,

There seem to be a few of eary 20-somethings around here.....Which actually doesn't surprise me that much....I'm hard-pressed around here (upper North East Tennesse, by the way) to find anyone our age who likes Jay or Son Volt......

New to the board, but had to add a voice as one who just hit 50. I'm late arriving to the party, but enjoying it now that I'm here.

"His songs could be your life"

First time I heard "Windfall", a certain line made me shiver and still does - given my birth year - especially whenever I've seen Jay live.
Check out my signature quote and rack up another oldie!
First thing I heard overall was "Still Feel Gone" which I bought in '92 as an imported cassette on the strength of a terrific review in the now defunct weekly music mag "Sounds" by British journalist Steve Sutherland, who receives an acknowledgement on the later English-pressed vinyl version of the same gem of an album. A nice touch from Uncle Tupelo and I'll be sure to shake Steve's hand warmly should we happen to meet. To say he put me on to a good thing would be a colossal understatement.

Turned 33 this September also...right in the middle of the target market apparently (not that Jay concerns himself with target markets...and I, for one, am glad....despite the fact that I teach marketing....haha).

Turned 29 in august...

Missed my opportunity to see UT playing in Lexington, KY at the Wrocklage (so i've been told) by a couple of years.

At least i saw SV in Louisville and Cinci...
Straightaways and WST tour.
Seeing Jay tear it up on Chickamauga was memorable.

Great to see him get electric again with Canyon at the Middle East and in Northampton now that i'm here in Mass.

And in 92 Peter Buck produced March 16-20, so the timings right.
