No, Up doesn't suck at all! It is not as good as other R.E.M. stuff, as you said, but all the little parts of the album that are so awesome add up to one very enjoyable album. Plus it reminds me of a special certain someone from my past so it goes along well with rainy days.

Wow! You're the first person I've heard that didn't say that this album sucked. While not as good as REM's IRS years, I've always thought Up had its own merits. Listening to Airportman while watching the rain drops meander down the window during a light rain...sounds great!

I was gonna say that too! Good choice.
Also on the list: Trace (of course); Up by R.E.M.; and the song "London Still" by The Waifs. I can listen to that last one over and over and over....

My scratchy LP of the Carter Family's "All Time Favorites" with Wild Turkey on ice are my rainy day standbys. Luna's "Penthouse" with Maker's Mark comes in a close second.

Bob Dylan, Bootleg Series vol. 4, first disc.

Just to hear that wonderful echoing harmonica.

I'd say lastly Sleeps with angels by Neil Young, The good son by Nick Cave and Mercury Rev's All is dream but it's subject to change by the rain intensity :)

My all-time fav: I ALWAYS think of Broken Arrow (Neil Young and Crazy Horse).
Close seconds: Pearl Jam- No Code, Son Volt: Trace, Greg Graffin: American Lesion.
