What dylan cover would you like Jay to play??
Like always, this is a tough one, but I'd have to go for Like a Rolling Stone. There's alot of other more "obvious" choices (not sure exacly what I ment with saying that) But I think he'd do a wicked version of that song. Plus- It's one of the greatest songs ever written!
Which reminds me, I've got to purchase a few remastered albums from 2003 now; the sound on Blonde on Blonde is horrible (think it might the first CD edition of it) compared to the remasters from 2003. BTW, does anyone have any experience with the SACD's? I'm just wondering how the sound quality is compared to regular CD's.
jahilia, yes, while Street Legal does get a bad rap (even from Dylan himself).... the album has some great stuff. Most noticeably for me: "Where Are You Tonight? (Journey Through Dark Heat)" I just love that fucking song.
As far as best album, well..... I hate favorites, but, you guys are forgetting his recent stuff which, at times, surpasses even his so called "classic" material. Take "Time Out of Mind" for example. That's a great album. Same with his most recent "Love and Theft".. beautiful imagery on that one.
Street Legal
"Changing Of The Guards" is one of his very best songs ever!
"'Gentlemen', he said, 'I don't need your organization.
I've shined your shoes,
I've moved your mountains and I've marked your cards -
but Eden is burning.
Either prepare for elimination, or your hearts must have the courage
for the changing of the guards"
I've got a bunch of Dylan both on vinal and CD. My aunt gave me, for my birthday a ,at that time , brand new "deluxe-mono" record titled Freewheelin'. I'm glad I still have it..in less then perfect condition. Her then husband took me and my cousin to Grant Park in Chicago '68 or so, to see some blues..Otis Rush inspired me to pick up a guitar. Blond on Blond, Highway 61...wow, how to pick?? Nashville Skyline opened up bluegrass to me but, I always go back to ...Planet Waves. Going, going ,gone..Forever Young...the only studio album w/ The Band. Jay does a wonderful cover of going...Interesting tidbit..the Dylan folks are looking for the original masters, in hopes of putting ou a double CD of the sessions..would be way cool. Eric Clapton is also going to do the same at some point w/ the 461 Ocean Blvd. tapes. That's one of the albums I always come back to. However , that's another thead.
