classic...
who do you answer to?
no one there, just pride.
dead man's clothes

jbwilm & 15 keys
Greetings…long time Farrar fan with a burning question that I suspect someone here can answer.jbwilm wrote:One of my favorites is from 15 Keys:
"Danger slow says the sign ahead
Exhaust fumes, Thin Lizzy instead."
also
"We're all living proof that nothing lasts."
Jbwilm…”15 Keys” has always been one of my favorites, but my favorite line is:
Silver spikes and mace
Displayed in your eyes
Fearlessness cannot fathom
What's on your mind
It’s intriguing for me to imagine that “fearlessness” itself cannot fathom what’s on someone’s mind. It seems like scary thought to me. I’ve often wished that I could get some outside input on these lyrics and I discovered the opportunity today here on this board. So……
The burning question is: what is this tune about? I’ve loved this track since I bought the album, but have no idea what it’s about. I’ve been cursed with an obsessively literal personality…so basically I suck at “deciphering” Farrarisms.
Any help? Thanks in advance.

I do like the concept of the "mother road" phrase better. I had never heard Route 66 referenced like that before but that definitely makes sense in the context of the whole song. So that's what I will sing from now on![/quote]
I'm totally convinced it's the 'mother road.' It's a much better lyric than 'another road', so I've got to believe that's what Jay is saying. The song, is after all, called 'Route'. Route 66 is definitely The Mother Road.

So I have been listening to Route off the original Trace and the Park West show Sawyer vined. On Trace I honestly can't tell, it sounds like it could be "the mother road remains" or "another road". Then on the concert it sounds like he says "but the road remains". So bottom line is I don't know.
