Cahokian when the maracas start to be shook.
I like the tea kettle whistling in the background on Cahokian (time mark 2.02); sounds like one anyway--unless it's space junk falling from the studio ceiling...

speaking of The Slaughter Rule i finally saw it last week. i like it, but my wife didn't. she's not much into that independent film vibe tho. there were some parts that coulda been left out, but all in all i thought it was great. of course it was never really all that clear whether or not Gid was homosexual or not. yeah he said he wasn't, but he still acted the part sorta. i guess i got trouble trustin him too. :?

Highwood on the Slaughter Rule soundtrack.

Just very nice sound, and I even think the electronic interuption adds to the piece. Maybe that's why I don't mind the Space Junk, this soundtrack gets you ready for it.

Pedal steel and lap steel woven deeply throughout Trace. Never showy, just an integral part of the Song. Reminds me a lot of Harvest. When Jay played Windfall and Tear-stained Eye solo, you could almost hear these parts.
Lap steel on Barstow (with that odd drumbeat).
Acoustic slide on Walk You Down - better choice than a lap steel for that song when you think about it - one of them little choices that separates the Moe-zarts from the royal hacks.

How about the banjo in No More Parades?

That completely makes that song.

The harmonica solo in Straightface

Also, the "jangling", for lack of a better term, of the 12 string guitars throughout the March album, especially on Coalminers, Criminals :D and Shaky Ground.

Am I on a roll or what?

While thinking of lyrics, put some time into the best instrumental moments of a Farrar/SV/UT song.

Again, I shall lead off:

Cahokian when the maracas start to be shook. Very sweet, and just the perfect touch to the song.
