All this chitter-chatter, chitter-chatter, chitter-chatter 'bout
Shmatta, shmatta, shmatta
I can't give it away on 7th Avenue
This town's been wearing tatters

I tried listening to Lucero when some of you talked about them but couldn't get into it at all. NPR starts promoting this album, All a Man Should Do with the Warren Zevon's Los Angeles song on it and I got hooked. The whole album is really, really good. This prompts me to revisit the older stuff and lo and behold, I have a new, if only temporary, favorite band. I rarely take people's suggestions about new music because I think listening to music is personal. Something that strikes me in a way may not affect you at all. That said, at 44, it's nice to be wrong. I'll pay better attention.

the boys from S Florida were talking them up
so i jumped in

but i couldn't get past the voice
picked it up an year later

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide

The city is a sea of lights...from Venice Beach to Hollywood & Vine.
Drinking whiskey in my winter coat, an empty-hearted town, sure gets cold
Dan Tana's by the Troubadour
Harry Dean singing 'Oh Danny Boy'
After hours at the Overpass
Hour after hour at the Overpass

I Went Looking For Warren Zevon's Los Angeles
I got turned around on Gower Avenue

You can't bandy about Warren Zevon's name without me taking note of it. I tried listening to Lucero when some of you talked about them but couldn't get into it at all. She's so cold, she's so cold
She's so cold, cold, cold like an ice cream cone
She's so cold, she's so cold
I dare not touch her my hand just froze

Is it cold in California
Like I told you it would be?
Do you need someone to warm you
Be there for you?
Is it cold in California
Like it is in Tennessee?

Oh come let us adore them
California overboard
When the sun sets on the ghetto
All the broken stuff gets cold

While the poor people sleepin'
With the shade on the light
While the poor people sleepin'
All the stars come out at night

The killer awoke before dawn
He put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall

Yet still a light is shining
From that lamp on down the hall
Maybe the star of Bethlehem
Wasn't a star at all

Now let the wolf judge me as I stand
Harmony onward friend
Until I see that old star again
High over the lonesome valley

Wolf moon keep on shinin'
Your days rolling by in timeless grace
Your heart just keeps on beating
Inside the beauty of this place

Just another hunter, like a wolf in the sun
Just another junkie on a scoring run
Just another victim of the things he has done
Just another day ace up...in the life of a loaded gun

The odds get even
You name the game
The odds get even
The stakes are the same
You bet your life

And of course she knows, ‘cause I can’t fool her

And I know she knows, ‘cause she don’t fool me

And she knows I know she knows and we might discuss it eventually

When the pressure builds ‘til it blows the seals all out from in between

You’d a’ thought that we’d know better by now
