omg, i am so nervous about what will happen to charley, he is such a nice, thoughful, curious kid and then Lean on Pete, I love and fear for that horse, for both of them actually. found myself thinking about them at work today. NO SPOILERS PEASE! :?

"Wicked River: The Mississippi When It Last Ran Wild" by Lee Sandlin. A 2010 book so not the inspiration for Jay's New Madrid, Kahokian or Sultana but chock full of these stories. The feds first "major foray into disaster relief (was) after New Madrid....By then (decades later) a 'New Madrid claim' had become a byword throughout the river valley for legal chicanery and fraud".
