My father raised me on Close to the Edge, so through osmosis, it is indeed one of my fav's!
As I got older, I was really into Owner of a lonely Heart (still am), but just the single as I am not familiar with the entire record...

Nektar is so freaking great

I always preferred Recycled, Remember the Future and Down to Earth to Tab in the Ocean, but a criminally underrated band

I was lucky enough to see the original Nektar probably seven or eight times in NYC back in the day, then saw them again at NEARfest a few years ago in their first show in 25 years - and as great as ever.

And speaking of Close to the Edge ...

I just upped this for a friend, so enjoy it ... the Starship Trooper has to be heard to be believed

Yes / ELP / Genesis

Post by hardwood floor »

OK, so in another life I played keys in lousy prog cover bands and grew up on Yes, ELP and Genesis.

Turns out a lot of my friends these days who are into good music were also raised on prog. Of the three people I went to Son Volt with last February, two of them are huge Yes freaks. And somebody posted here lately about the similarities between Jay's tunings and Steve Howe's.

So what about ya'all? Any other closet progheads around? Anybody else put together mix tapes filled with both Uncle Tupelo and Starcastle?

Or is it just me?
