Glad you’re digging it, Tokyo. Craig Finn’s songwriting is second to none; he employs a variety of techniques that you so rarely find in songwriting: not just recurrent themes but recurrent characters, places, and references that are not merely clever or pointlessly self-referential but rather more like an author who creates a single world around multiple characters across seemingly unrelated texts (think Faulkner’s Yoknapatawpha County, for example). Give a listen to The Hold Steady’s two best records: 2006’s "Boys and Girls in America" and 2008’s "Stay Positive". They’re among the two greatest rock and roll albums of the 21st century.

With all the mentions of The Hold Steady (which I’m unfamiliar with), I’m giving it a listen now. I really like "You’re a Good Kid" and (playing as I write) "Traditional Village."
