Farrar lyrics
Im going to second that...
Now and then it keeps you running
It never seems to die
The trail's spent with fear
Not enough living on the outside
Never seem to get far enough
Staying in between the lines
Hold on to what you can
Waiting for the end
Not knowing when
May the wind take your troubles away
May the wind take your troubles away
Both feet on the floor, two hands on the wheel,
May the wind take your troubles away
Trying to make it far enough, to the next time zone
Few and far between past the midnight hour
Never feel alone, you're really not alone...
Switching it over to AM
Searching for a truer sound
Can't recall the call letters
Steel guitar and settle down
Catching an all-night station somewhere in Louisiana
It sounds like 1963, but for now it sounds like heaven
May the wind take your troubles away
May the wind take your troubles away
Both feet on the floor, two hands on the wheel,
May the wind take your troubles away.
Cheers

Can you deny there's nothing greater
Nothing more than the traveling hands of time
-Tear Stained Eye-
(actually the whole damn song could make the list!)
God Bless them, pretty women
How I wish they was mine
With breath as sweet as dew from the vine
-Moonshiner-
Speaking of which, what is the very first line of that song?
Whiskey bottle over Jesus
Not forever, just for now
-Whiskey Bottle-

this could be the best thread i've yet seen on the board. good stuff, good stuff.
my contribution:
GOT TO KNOW A FRIEND
WITH A THINK TANK AND A FARM AND YOU COULDN'T ASK FOR BETTER
WORKS ON DREAMS INSIDER SCHEMES
LIVES LIKE THE WORDS IN A SONG
For some reason he strings together words and thoughts that it just blows me away

Chickamauga has that line
"a miracle might point the way to solutions we're after
and avert our chronic impending disaster"
When I first heard it, I thought it was
"barracudas might point the way to solutions we're after
with the burden of chronic impending disaster"
I like "out of the gate, I met opposing forces" from Station to Station.
Out of the Picture and Cahokian have some of my favorite lyrics.
"From Memphis to New Orleans
in and out of railroad dreams
you're out there in scenes
passing by."
See other drunken ramblings for my thoughts on the value of becoming emotionally invested in a particular lyrical interpretation and the mumbling babble at the fade of "Blind Hope".

thanks for your input
No argument here....I just wanted some views on the lyrical content for my own peace of mind...not to pick a fight....and your analysis sounds reasonable to me.
I would like to comment on one line though.
I think it should be read:
watch it seperate into whatever the day wants it to
as opposed to:
watch it seperate in two whatever the day wants it to
It has no impact on your theory at all....it's posted with "in two" almost everywhere on the net...I've just always felt that Jay intended for that to be "into".
The shitty day concept of yours lends itself very well to the lyrics I think. It's tempting for me to try to apply most of Jay's stuff to personal relationships with loved ones or not-so loved ones. Although I think I tend to do that just because it's easy.
Fearlessness cannot fathom what's on your mind. For me it's the lyrical hook of the whole tune. This is the single line that draws my attention the most and I think it fits quite nicely with your "shitty day" theory. I would imagine that most people in the midst of a shitty day are at least somewhat less fearful of "stuff" than they would normally be.
For example...in '93 Micheal Douglas was in a film called "Falling Down". If you haven't seen it...in a nutshell Douglas "goes postal" in an attempt to get to his daughters B-day party. Douglas is having a monumentally shitty day with everything and everybody and get's really stressed out...kills a few people and just generally goes nuts. In this film, you very quickly get the message that "fearlessness cannot fathom what's on his mind". This fearlessness is what makes a fellow climb the bell tower.

here's my two cents on Fifteen Keys
I think the song is about being stessed out from bad sH*% happening, saying *%^$ it, and then partying down
watch it separate in two (things falling apart)
whatever the day wants it to (doesn't matter what you do on this day, bad sh*% is gonna happen)
slings and arrows completes the score (more bad stuff on top of everything else)
silver spikes and mace displayed in your eyes (you're pissed off)
fearlessness cannot fathom what's on your mind (not sure, sometimes Jay just puts words together that he thinks sound cool)
been there no luck at all nothing left to lose (it's happened before, no matter what you try to correct the situation doesn't work)
danger slow sign ahead exhaust fumes thin lizzy instead (thin of a worker like a truck driver, all these signs and symbols telling him what to do, smelling exhaust, well forget that, let's open up a cold one and crank some Thin Lizzy)
left all pressin' cares all along the road (self explanatory)
15 keys where do they go? (all those keys you carry on a big key ring related to work, etc, who cares about them right now, let's go grab a cold Stag).
I'm not sure if that's right, but at least some it makes some sense (to me at least!)
I'm open to rebuttals.
